DPF Diagnosis, Cleaning & Off-Road Solutions

DPF light on, limp mode, endless failed regens? We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing at it. For road cars that means proper diagnosis, cleaning and repair. For genuine off-road, motorsport and export vehicles, we also offer DPF removal — and we will be straight with you about what that means.

A diesel particulate filter traps soot and periodically burns it off in a regeneration cycle. When that cycle keeps failing you get warning lights, reduced power and eventually limp mode. The cause is very often not the filter itself — it is a differential pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, an EGR issue, a glow plug, or simply a car doing nothing but short journeys and never getting hot enough to regenerate.

So we start by finding out what is actually wrong. That means reading the live data, checking the sensors and looking at the regeneration history rather than reaching for the easy answer. Plenty of DPF problems are a sensor and a forced regen away from being solved, and that is a far cheaper morning for you than any alternative.

Where the filter is genuinely blocked, it can often be cleaned rather than replaced. Where it is cracked or the substrate has collapsed, it needs replacing — and we will tell you that honestly.

We also carry out DPF removal and mapping for vehicles used exclusively off the public road: motorsport, competition, plant, agricultural and export vehicles. This needs saying clearly, because too many places gloss over it. Removing or disabling a DPF on a vehicle used on UK roads is illegal. It is an automatic MOT failure, it breaches the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, and it can invalidate your insurance. We will ask you what the vehicle is used for, and we will take your answer at face value — but the responsibility for how the vehicle is used afterwards is yours, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Off-road, motorsport and export vehicles only. Removing or disabling emissions equipment on a vehicle used on UK roads is illegal, is an automatic MOT failure, and can invalidate your insurance. We will ask what the vehicle is used for. For road cars we diagnose and repair properly — which is usually cheaper than you think.

Common questions

Is a DPF delete legal in the UK?

Not for road use. Removing or disabling a DPF on a road-going vehicle is an MOT failure and an offence under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. We only carry out DPF removal on vehicles used exclusively off the public road — motorsport, competition, plant, agricultural or export.

My DPF light keeps coming on — do I need it removed?

Almost certainly not. Most DPF faults on a road car are a sensor, an EGR problem, or a car doing nothing but short trips. Get it diagnosed properly first — the fix is often far cheaper than you fear.

Can a blocked DPF be cleaned?

Often, yes, if the substrate is intact. If it is cracked or collapsed it needs replacing. We will tell you which it is rather than guessing.

What causes a DPF to block?

Short journeys where the engine never gets hot enough to regenerate, interrupted regens, a faulty sensor feeding the ECU bad data, excess oil consumption, or a failing EGR. It is nearly always a symptom rather than the disease.
