A dealership site where the forecourt updates itself: Berkshire Cars & Commercials

A used-van and car dealership near Reading whose entire forecourt lives on the website — stock, prices and photos syncing straight from Auto Trader, so the site is never out of date and the team never touches a spreadsheet.

Berkshire Cars & Commercials is a family-run dealership on Frouds Lane, just off the M4 near Reading, selling hand-picked used vans and cars across Newbury, Basingstoke, Oxford, Slough, Swindon and West London. They're genuinely well-regarded — 4.9 on Auto Trader from 120 reviews, 4.9 on Google from 65, and Auto Trader "Highly Rated for Customer Service" three years running (2024, 2025 and 2026). They needed a website that lived up to that reputation, and — crucially — one that kept pace with a forecourt that changes every week.

The problem: a forecourt that changes every week

A dealership's stock never sits still. Vans sell, new ones come in, prices move. A hand-updated website is out of date the moment it's published — and nothing loses a buyer's trust faster than driving out to see a van that sold a fortnight ago, or a "stock" page that clearly hasn't been touched in months. Most small-dealer sites either give up and just link out to their Auto Trader page — handing the relationship, and the margin, to a third party — or they run on a bloated platform that's slow, generic, and still needs updating by hand. Neither reflects a dealer who's the highest-rated in their area.

The approach: a fast dealership site that runs itself

Live stock, straight from Auto Trader

The centrepiece is the stock. Rather than anyone re-typing listings, the site pulls the current inventory straight from their Auto Trader feed — around 25 vehicles at any time — so every van and car on the website is one that's actually on the forecourt, with the right price, mileage and photos. Buyers filter by make, model, fuel, price and mileage and drill into full specs on each vehicle. The forecourt and the website stay in lockstep, with no daily admin.

Two ways to do business: buy and sell

The navigation makes the two jobs obvious — Buy Now and Sell Now. Buyers browse stock, see the specs and book a viewing by appointment; sellers use a valuation form to get an offer on their own vehicle. On top of that sits a Vehicle Sourcing service for buyers who want something specific found for them. Three clear routes to an enquiry, each with its own path through the site rather than a single generic "contact us".

Built for people who buy on their phone

Vehicle shopping happens on phones, in the evening, off the back of an Auto Trader search — so the site is mobile-first and quick, with the things that actually close a used-vehicle sale sitting right up front: every vehicle HPI-checked, a 3-month warranty as standard, and 12 months' AA breakdown cover on eligible vehicles. Delivery is nationwide, and that's said plainly rather than buried three clicks deep.

Found on Google — and by AI

The build is hand-coded for speed and search, with the local reach — Reading, Newbury, Basingstoke, Oxford, Slough, Swindon and West London — worked into the structure so the dealership turns up for the areas it actually serves. Structured data describes the business and its stock so both Google and AI answer engines can read and surface it, not just index it. As more people ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews for a local dealer rather than scrolling, a cleanly structured site has a real edge.

Trust built into the first impression

Those hard-won ratings do real work here. The 4.9 Auto Trader and 4.9 Google scores, the review counts and the three consecutive Auto Trader awards sit where a first-time visitor sees them immediately — because for a used-vehicle buyer deciding whether to trust a dealer they've never met, that proof is the difference between an enquiry and a bounce.

Before and after

The difference is easy to measure — I ran the old and new sites through Fisher.digital's own Website Health Checker. The previous site scored 13/100 for health and 21/100 for AI search, and was actually returning a 403 error to visitors, with its AI "Quotable" score sitting at 0 — effectively invisible to both people and answer engines. The new site scores a perfect 100/100 — "Healthy" — and comes up green across every AI answer-engine check. It went from actively costing the business customers to a modern, secure, fast site that's easy for both people and AI to use.

The result

Berkshire Cars & Commercials now has a website that mirrors the forecourt in real time, makes it effortless to buy, sell or source a vehicle, and leads with the reputation they've earned — all on a fast, self-hosted site they own outright, with no per-listing fees and no manual stock entry.

What it shows

For a dealership, the website's real job isn't to look good on launch day — it's to be right every day. Stock that syncs itself, trust signals that show up first, and clear paths to buy and sell beat a prettier site that's quietly out of date. The build that wins is the one that stays current on its own, without anyone having to remember to update it.
